Photographing Rhyl

When I picked up a camera for the first time in 2019, the first place I went to photograph was Rhyl. Drawn to its colour, unique personality and 'forgotten treasure' status, I keep going back. Rhyl has held many identities over the years ranging from Victorian holiday resort to 20th Century British Seaside. Often overlooked in favour of other nearby towns like Llandudno, I believe Rhyl is a town worth documenting. Despite all its changes, Rhyl's spirit lives on, and every time I go there I am greeted with an energy that never runs out. The people are interesting and kind and the architecture is colourful and varied, and I am slowly weaving a story in pictures about how this small seaside town is changing in the 21st Century. I will be carrying on this work over many years, and one day I hope to publish it in some format, be that an exhibition, a book, or both.
